The heavy rains of the March-May season expected in several parts of East Africa have caused severe river flooding, flash floods, landslides and flood damage to dams in many parts of the area, particularly in Kenya. These phenomena have had a devastating impact on the population, displacing thousands of people and causing casualties, damage to property and infrastructure, and loss of farmland, crops and livestock.
Thanks to funding from the Valdese Church’s Ottopermille, with which the GRT works to ensure support for street children in the slums of Nairobi, field workers were able to intervene promptly in the area to address the climate emergency.
Purchases of food and basic necessities (blankets, diapers, sanitary napkins, etc.), is what GRT is doing to cope with the emergency situation in the Starehe area as a result of the floods. The support and collaboration with the Children Office in Nairobi, has enabled us to identify the most urgent needs and bring assistance, support and closeness to over 200 families in the area.
